Content Management Systems
At Mojoe.net, we think everyone deserves to have their own Web site. However, not everyone knows the ins and outs of the Internet, and we undestand that, which is why we design many of our sites in content management system (CMS). This allows clients to be their own Web master.
Content management systems have a wide range of benefits. Not only do they give you full control of your site, but they allow you to make changes on the fly. We know that not every customer wants to call us whenever they have a change that needs to be made. That's the beauty of using a CMS. Content management systems allow our customers a level of customization and simplicity that they just can't get with a normal HTML/XHTML Web site.
With a CMS-based site, our customers can log in as an administrator and change the look and feel of their site without having to wait for someone else to get around to it. They can monitor and block user-submitted content that might be offensive or copyrighted. They can quickly and efficiently post updates and recent events as well as receive comments and feedback from registered users.
Choices, Choices, Choices ...
CMSs have become popular in recent years, and as popularity has increased so, too, has the number of CMSs available for personal and public use.
DNN
DotNetNuke (DNN) was the first CMS Mojoe.Net started to use. According to their Web site, DNN is "the leading framework for Web site content management and Web application development on Microsoft .NET." DNN is an open source CMS.
That spells great things for you as the consumer. Open source programs and software are usually free of charge. Also, open source programs are thrive on a fostered sense of community and teamwork. As a result, the more popular a CMS is the more people use, and as people use it, they expand the system's abilities. In the end, open source is a very democratic way of creating a CMS.
DNN like many CMSs allows the user to login and create pages. At Mojoe.Net, we help create something called a "skin," which acts a a way of dressing up a site. Think of it as putting a coat on your body, where the coat is the custom DNN, and the body is your Web site's structure.
DNN allows you to create blogs, post calendar events, post videos, upload photos, rate and comment on uploaded content, and a host of other things. Although not as popular as other CMSs such as Joomla! and Drupal, DNN is quickly gaining followers who use the system for their company or pesonal site.
Joomla!
Joomla! is another CMS that Mojoe.Net will soon be using. Joomla! is a PHP-based CMS.
According to their Web site, "Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone."
Like DNN, Jooomla! is an open-source CMS, and it is one of the most popular CMSs in the world. "Joomla's open source project and contributions from the community are essential to its growth and success. Contributing to the Joomla Project is easy and you can give as little or as much time as you want. Anyone can contribute on any level, even newcomers can contribute to Joomla."
Some of Our Work
We did the original design for Kinequip's Web site, but they heard about DNN and wanted us to convert their existing site into a fully-functional DNN Web site.
Kinequip was so impressed by the functionality and the flexibility of their redesigned company site that they asked us to design more sites for them in DNN, including this Elmo Rietschle site.
