User Experience can take a website to the next level. A good website can be a physical product that is sold or an online service that must hold its value over time. In either case, a good website is not just the result of an excellent design and development process — it must also have thought put into everything from its initial ideation to its daily operation and maintenance. That’s where User Experience comes in: it provides the thoughtful, strategic approach needed for achieving maximum impact on your users. In order to have an excellent user experience on the website, it stems from the organizational maturity of the company.
User Experience Maturity and Demonstrating ROI are the only two steps that must be taken to make any online business more productive and efficient. Great user experience is key, but it will not be achieved without a solid organizational structure. Having a balanced customer-focused organization for making decisions is what allows projects to be carried out quickly and efficiently, but also requires accepting the long-term consequences of those decisions.
Six Tactics in relation to user experience maturity:
1. Finding and utilizing UX champions
- This is the first step for any company to start understanding the vital role user experience plays in making money. A good way to find UX champs is to look at your customers, or rather, your users.
2. Demonstrating the ROI/value of UX
- In order to implement User Experience, it is important to show the value of user experience directly to upper management. This is because, in order to get funding, the financial numbers need to be there and show that user experience could bring a significant increase in revenue.
3.Knowlege sharing/documenting what UX work has been done
- This is another important aspect of any organization. Any UX champions in the company should document their work through user research, wireframes, landing pages and so on.
4. Mentoring
- Mentoring is extremely important because it keeps up to date with the latest new techniques and technologies in the UX field. Without mentoring, there is no way to teach different types of skills needed for implementing user experience.
5. Education of UX staff on UX tools and specific areas of UX expertise
- Similarly, it is also important to keep up to date with the various tools and techniques needed for implementing user experience.
6. Education of non-UX staff on UX principles and processes
- After educating your staff, it is also important to educate the rest of the organization on what user experience does and how it can potentially help you. This will allow for more open communication between UX and non-UX members.
UX is a skill that is highly regarded as an important component of a website. However, it’s often the least emphasized or most overlooked area in the development process. It can be practiced, grown, and improved just like any other skill.
We all stand to benefit from increased awareness and growing UX maturity. We can apply these six tactics to our work within and outside the organization to help establish and maintain our organization’s UX maturity.
