So to start off SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This means optimizing your site for a certain keyword or phrase. That way when someone searches this particular word or phrase you come up at the top of the results. For example, let us say I have a website that sells pineapples. I would want to find a key phrase or word like, “where to buy pineapples”. As that is what I assume people are gonna search when trying to find a website to buy pineapples. I do not know why anyone would buy pineapples online but that’s beside the point.
The point is I would optimize my site about pineapples. I would have lots of content about the types of pineapples, some facts, and probably some statistics or other content as needed. This makes Search Engine Optimization easier because you have more content to optimize. Another piece of content would be images of pineapples. All of these things will help boost my rating for what google determines as the best results to show users for what they looked up. For search engines to determine the best results, they look at how your site has been updated in the past and how well it is optimized today.
SEO is not just for finding results in Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other search engines. There are many places where you can use SEO to help with social media and local listings. Social media like Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and more can help boost traffic to your site. The local listings that can help your site will be Yelp and the local email service. Allowing people to rate your site will help boost your ratings on other search engines. So in a way you are doing SEO for yourself.
Among other things, social media and places like yelp give you backlinks to your website. Google also sees these backlinks. Think of a backlink as a vote for your site the more you have the more Google likes your site. Overall SEO is a very important thing for your site if your goal is to rank high on search engines and reach more customers.
